Official Horizons character material presents Friede and Captain Pikachu as leaders of the group that supports Liko and Roy. Their partnership belongs to the Horizons cast. Cap is not Ash’s Pikachu under a new title, and the series does not present the two as the same individual.

Cap is shown as an experienced battler and a trainer for younger Pokémon. In “Special Training with Cap!,” the official episode synopsis describes Liko and Roy training with Captain Pikachu and trying to land a hit while he uses Double Team.
