Dragon's Dogma 2 The Arisen's Shadow — catch Bermudo and compare choices
Trigger the Vernworth pursuit, grab Bermudo instead of attacking and compare the bribe with Brant’s arrest route.
Applies to: Base-game Vernworth quest · 2024 guides conflict on part of the turn-in outcome
Quick answer
After Seat of the Sovran and another Brant objective, watch for the hooded Bermudo in Vernworth. Chase him when he runs and use the grab/tackle action to trigger the choice. Letting him go pays the reported 5,000 G. Refusing routes him through Brant, but the reviewed guides conflict about the exact reward, fight and Battahl permit details, so those outcomes remain separately attributed.

Direct answer: after Seat of the Sovran and at least one other Brant objective, watch for a hooded man named Bermudo in Vernworth. When he shouts and runs, chase him and use the grab/tackle action—talking or normal attacks are not the intended capture. You can accept his bribe and release him, or refuse and turn him over through Brant’s route.
Trigger and cutoff
PowerPyx reports that the quest becomes available after Seat of the Sovran plus one other Brant objective and becomes unavailable during Feast of Deception. RPG Site describes the trigger timing as variable while exploring Vernworth. Finish it before advancing Brant’s coronation sequence.
Identify Bermudo
- Look in Vernworth, especially around the Merchant Quarter.
- The hooded man keeps distance, reveals the name Bermudo if approached and runs when discovered.
- Pawns may remark that someone is watching you; the quest may have no useful waypoint.
Catch him with the grab action
- Drop the current activity when he starts running so he does not vanish into the city schedule.
- Sprint after him; PowerPyx reports that he tends toward an eastern residential dead end.
- Close the gap and hold the platform’s grab/tackle control (R2 on PlayStation in both reviewed guides).
- Wait for the capture dialogue and choice instead of continuing to strike him.
Compare the choice
| Choice | Agreed outcome | Reported details |
|---|---|---|
| Accept payment / let him go | Bermudo leaves and the quest closes. | Both reviewed guides report 5,000 G; PowerPyx also lists 1,000 XP. |
| Refuse / turn him in | Brant’s route arrests him. | PowerPyx reports a Battahl border pass. RPG Site instead describes a fight, 4,000 G and jail outcome. These details conflict and remain qualified. |
If he disappears, dies or the quest stalls
- Leave the immediate area, pass time without advancing Feast of Deception, then search Vernworth again.
- Check whether the objective is still active before chasing a similar hooded NPC.
- If Bermudo died, inspect the Vernworth Charnel House and revive him if present; neither reviewed guide fully verifies every death state.
- If the quest already crossed its main-story cutoff, preserve the current save and plan it for NG+.

The guides conflict on some turn-in rewards and downstream behavior. This page preserves that conflict rather than manufacturing one definitive table.
PowerPyx and RPG Site agree on the variable city pursuit and grab action. Reward, permit and arrest details are shown with their source conflict instead of merged into one claim.
