ACE COMBAT 8 Platforms: PS5, Xbox, PC and the Switch 2 Question
ACE COMBAT 8 is on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Switch 2 has no announcement, and Steam's own Deck report says Unsupported while players ask for Linux.
Applies to: The platforms ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE is sold on, plus the Switch 2, Linux and Steam Deck status, checked on October 15, 2026
Quick answer
The publisher lists three platforms and no fourth: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. There is no Switch 2 version and no announcement of one — that is an absence of information, not a denial. On Linux, Steam's own hardware compatibility report for the app returns Unsupported, while ProtonDB's third-party community data rates the game Gold overall, and players on Steam are actively asking for the anti-cheat to be enabled for Linux and Proton.

At a glance
The publisher lists three platforms, and only three: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. There is no Nintendo Switch 2 version, and not because one is coming later — the publisher has said nothing about it in any release, announcement or store listing that this check found.
Linux is a different answer to a different question. The publisher has not announced a Linux build, and Steam's own hardware compatibility report for the app returns Unsupported. At the same time, community compatibility data and active player requests both suggest the game runs under Proton for some people while online play does not. Those two statements are not in conflict, and this page keeps them apart.
The three official platforms
| Platform | Where it is sold | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | PlayStation Store | Named in the publisher's platform line and in its release announcements |
| Xbox Series X|S | Microsoft Store | Named in the same places |
| PC (Windows) | Steam | Named in the same places; the Steam store API returns Windows as the only platform flagged true, with Mac and Linux flagged false |
That third row is worth reading carefully, because it is the only row where an official field answers a related question at the same time. Steam's platform flags are a publisher-supplied declaration: Windows true, macOS false, Linux false. They say nothing about Proton, which is why the Linux question needs its own section rather than being settled here.
The publisher's own game page carries the same three names and no fourth. Where a version exists on more than one storefront, the edition contents are the same set described on the editions and prices page.
Switch 2: not announced, and that is all that can be said
There is no Switch 2 version. More precisely, there is no announcement of one, no store listing, no platform mention, and no statement either confirming or ruling one out.
That distinction matters for how you read the answer. An absent announcement is not a denial, and this page does not upgrade it into one. It is also not a hint. The publisher's Steam announcement feed, checked across every entry it returns, contains no mention of Nintendo hardware, and the official game page lists the same three platforms everywhere it lists platforms at all.
The search interest in a Switch version is real and the answer is simply empty. A future announcement would appear on the official game page's platform line and on the publisher's storefront before anywhere else.
Linux and Steam Deck
Two official data points and one community one, and they point in different directions. Stating all three is more useful than picking the tidiest.
- The publisher supports Windows 11 and says so. Its update notice of October 9, 2026 states that "ACE COMBAT 8 is officially supported on Windows 11" and warns that "players using other operating systems may experience behavior that differs from our testing environment". That is a statement about what was tested, not a promise about what will run.
- Steam's hardware compatibility report returns Unsupported. The store page publishes a compatibility report for every app — it is the data behind the Deck badge. For this game it returns the Unsupported tier, the same value Steam returns for titles it cannot recommend on the handheld, and the reason it records concerns SteamOS not being supported. Steam also returns an Unsupported result for its SteamOS and Steam Machine checks.
- Community-reported Proton results are better than that. ProtonDB, a third-party database of user-submitted Linux results, summarised this app as Gold overall at the time of the check, with the best reported tier being Platinum, a strong-confidence rating and 159 reports.
The likely reading — and it is a reading — is that the Steam verdict and the ProtonDB verdict are answering slightly different questions. Steam's Unsupported tier covers the whole experience including the online mode; a ProtonDB tier is a community rating of whether the game gets into a playable state on a given Linux setup, submitted by people who chose to report. Neither figure is a publisher statement about Linux support, because no such statement exists.
What players are asking for
The Linux discussion on Steam is not hypothetical. A search of the ACE COMBAT 8 discussions returns several hundred results for "Linux", and the most visible current thread is titled "Please setup Easy Anti Cheat for Linux/Proton", in which the poster argues that if the game runs but matchmaking fails, enabling the anti-cheat for Linux would be a small change for the publisher.
Independent third-party reporting points the same way in a more general form. A GamingOnLinux article carried in the game's own Steam news feed on September 29, 2026 reports that single-player works while online play appears blocked on SteamOS and Linux. That is a third-party claim, not a publisher statement, and it is recorded here as third-party.
One practical consequence follows from the sources rather than from any single report: if online play is the reason you want to play, the risk sits with the anti-cheat layer and the Steam compatibility verdict, not with the game's frame rate. If you only want the campaign, the community reports are more encouraging than the Steam label.
What is not published
- A Linux version. No announcement, no store listing, and no publisher statement in either direction.
- Any Switch or Switch 2 statement. Absent from the platform line, the editions list and the announcement feed.
- An official Steam Deck verdict stated as prose. Steam publishes the compatibility tier and the reason it attaches to it; the publisher has not written about the handheld itself.
- A macOS version. The platform flags mark it unsupported, and no announcement describes one.
VR is a separate platform question with its own answer, and it is covered on the VR support page. Cross-device play between the three official platforms is a feature of the online mode rather than a platform, and it is covered on the ACE COMBAT ONLINE page.

- Steam store API — ACE COMBAT 8 app details — source for the platform flags: Windows true, macOS false, Linux false.
- Steam store listing — the page publishes the hardware compatibility report used above, including the Unsupported result and the reason recorded with it, checked October 15, 2026. The tier wording used here was calibrated against titles Steam returns as Verified and Playable.
- Bandai Namco Entertainment — update plans and matchmaking notice, October 9, 2026 — source for the quoted statements that the game is officially supported on Windows 11 and that other operating systems were not the testing environment.
- Steam Discussions — ACE COMBAT 8 — source for the player request thread named above, including its title and the argument made in it. This is a player report and is labelled as one on the page.
- ProtonDB — ACE COMBAT 8 — third-party, community-submitted Linux compatibility data. The summary figures quoted (Gold overall, Platinum as the best reported tier, strong confidence, 159 reports) were read from its public summary endpoint on October 15, 2026 and are not a publisher statement.
- GamingOnLinux, September 29, 2026 — third-party reporting that online play appears blocked on SteamOS and Linux. Carried in the game's Steam news feed but written by a third party, and labelled as third-party on the page.
Checked on October 15, 2026. The platform list and the Windows-only support statement are quoted from Bandai Namco material. The Steam Deck result is Steam's own published compatibility data rather than the publisher's. The ProtonDB figures are third-party community data and are labelled as such wherever they appear above. No verdict is given on whether the game will run on any specific Linux distribution or handheld, and the Switch 2 answer is reported as an absence of announcement rather than as a denial.
Checked on October 15, 2026 against the Steam store listing and the Steam Web API app-details endpoint for ACE COMBAT 8, the publisher's own Steam announcements, and the Steam achievements API. Requirement figures, the DRM notice and the difficulty descriptions are quoted from official sources rather than paraphrased. Where a detail comes from a third-party wiki or from a player post rather than from Bandai Namco Entertainment, it is labelled as exactly that. Anything the publisher has not stated is written as unconfirmed rather than guessed.
Not independently play-tested. This is not a claim that every platform or game version was tested. Source review: Oct 15, 2026.
