ACE COMBAT 8 Crash and Error Codes: Error 01 and ST-3100001
The publisher's own crash checks, what ST-3100001 means, what remains unexplained about Error 01, and unverified player-reported workarounds.
Applies to: PC crashes and error codes in ACE COMBAT 8: the checks the publisher has published, the one explained error code, and player-reported steps, checked on October 15, 2026
Quick answer
The publisher has published three checks and one explained error code. For crashes on PC, the Product Notice of September 29, 2026 asks for the recommended graphics driver version, at least 16 GB free on the SSD the game is installed to, and Windows virtual memory enabled — that is the whole official list. Error code ST-3100001 appears in online play and means communication with the game server was lost; the official instruction is to check for a time deviation in Windows, synchronise the clock and try again. "Error 01" has no official explanation at all: no named cause, no published fix, only an acknowledgement that crashes are under investigation, a request for crash reports dated October 2, 2026, and an announced update with no date or contents. Steps that players report are collected in one section and marked as unverified, and no mod, patched file or injected tool is described or recommended, because a player post reports an anti-cheat ban following a mod installation.

At a glance
Sort your problem by what you are actually seeing, because the publisher has given different information for each.
| What you are seeing | Where the answer comes from |
|---|---|
| Random crashes on PC | Three checks published by Bandai Namco Entertainment on September 29, 2026 — driver version, at least 16 GB free on the install drive, and Windows virtual memory enabled |
| Error code ST-3100001 in online play | One named cause and one fix, from the publisher's September 30, 2026 announcement: lost communication with the game server, addressed by synchronising your Windows clock |
| "Error 01" or a Unreal Engine crash window | Not explained by the publisher. The code is being investigated, and a crash report is the contribution the publisher asks for |
The publisher has named one error code and published three checks. Everything else in circulation — launch parameters, overlay settings, background applications, BIOS options — is player-reported and is kept in a section of its own below, marked as unverified. Nothing on this page is a mod, a patched file or an injected tool, and there is a reason for that which is set out near the end.
The three checks the publisher asks for
On September 29, 2026 the publisher acknowledged unexpected crashes in the Steam version and said the team was investigating. Alongside that acknowledgement it published three checks. They are the closest thing to official troubleshooting that exists, and there are only three of them.
| Check | What the publisher asks | Why this one is specific |
|---|---|---|
| Graphics driver | Check your driver version and use the recommended version; if the game prompts you about a recommended driver at launch, update it | The publisher names the driver as a factor rather than leaving it to a generic "update your drivers" note |
| Free space on the install drive | Keep at least 16 GB free on the SSD the game is installed to | 16 GB is a working-space figure, separate from the 150 GB the game itself needs |
| Windows virtual memory | Make sure virtual memory is enabled | A system setting many players disable deliberately; the publisher is asking for it to be on |
The 150 GB storage requirement and the Windows 11 requirement are a separate matter from free working space: if your machine is below the published requirements, that is the place to start, and it is covered on the PC system requirements page.
ST-3100001: what the code means
One error code has an official explanation, in an announcement dated September 30, 2026. It appears in ACE COMBAT ONLINE and stops you continuing. The publisher names the cause as loss of communication with the game server, and the fix it gives is to check whether your Windows clock has drifted, synchronise it, and try again.
That is a narrow, specific instruction rather than a general repair, and it is worth noting what it implies: the code is about the handshake between your machine and the server, so a clock that is off by more than the tolerance the server accepts can fail it. The announcement does not state that tolerance, and this page does not supply a number for it.
What the code does not mean is equally useful. It is not a crash, it is not a driver problem, and the three September 29 checks are not what the announcement prescribes for it. If you are seeing ST-3100001, synchronise the clock first.
Two things around this code are player-side only and belong to the player-report section below: a reported tolerance figure and a reported consequence of repeated disconnections. Neither is in a publisher statement.
"Error 01" and the Unreal Engine crash window
This is where the published record goes quiet, and it is the most-searched part of the topic, so the gap is stated plainly rather than filled.
- No publisher material checked here explains "Error 01". It is not named in the Product Notice, not named in the ST-3100001 announcement, and not named in the update notice of October 9, 2026.
- No root cause has been published. The September 29 notice confirms crashes and says they are being investigated; it does not attribute them to a cause.
- No single official fix exists. Because the cause is not published, there is nothing the publisher describes as resolving it, and a page claiming otherwise would be inventing one.
What the publisher has done instead is ask for reports. A thread dated October 2, 2026 requests that anyone hitting a crash supply the details below, which is the fastest route to the problem being addressed.
| Item | Detail requested |
|---|---|
| Machine specifications | GPU, CPU, RAM and the rest of the build |
| Windows version | Your Windows version and system software version |
| Problem description | What happens, including the error message and the steps that reproduce it |
| Other running software | Any other applications running at the same time as the game |
Another complaint that lands in this topic is the very long first load, and that one belongs on the PC performance and graphics page, which collects what players report about it and notes that the publisher has said nothing official about it. It is a loading-time symptom rather than an error, so it is not repeated here.
The current update status
An update notice dated October 9, 2026 states that a patch is in preparation, covering fixes for problems players have reported plus various gameplay adjustments. It apologises for the issues currently affecting the game and gives no release date and no contents list — both are described as undecided at the time of writing.
The same notice addresses matchmaking, attributing part of the difficulty some players have establishing online matches to connections from environments that do not meet the listed system requirements. That claim and its consequences are dealt with on the online multiplayer page.
The practical reading for anyone troubleshooting: an official fix is announced but not shipped, so nothing on this page is described as resolved. Check back against this notice rather than against the date of any other post.
Player-reported steps we have not verified
Players have posted a range of things they say worked for them. They are listed here because they are part of what circulates, and they are labelled as player reports because that is all they are. This site has not tested any of them, they were posted against the build available on October 15, 2026, and any of them may stop working or become pointless after the announced update.
| Reported approach | Category | What it is based on |
|---|---|---|
| Closing overlays before launching | Third-party software | Players report disabling the Steam overlay, capture tools and the GPU vendor overlay |
| Switching the display mode to fullscreen | Game setting | Players report it in a thread titled "Is there anyone who fix the crash?" |
| Using FSR instead of DLSS | Game setting | Players report the AMD upscaler being steadier in their setups |
| A launch parameter to disable async compute | Launch option | A player-reported launch parameter; the game files are not touched |
| Raising the size of the Windows page file | System setting | A reported figure from the same thread; not confirmed by the publisher |
| Updating the motherboard BIOS and enabling Resizable BAR | System setting | Player-reported, and a system change with effects beyond this game |
| Keeping another title running in the background | Unclear mechanism | Player-reported; no reason is given that this page could check |
The tolerance figure for the time-drift problem behind ST-3100001 also comes from players: one report describes a drift of around thirty seconds being enough to block online battles, and another describes a ban from online play after five disconnections. Both are player reports. The publisher's announcement states only that the clock should be synchronised.
Where a reported step matches publisher guidance, it is only the driver check and virtual memory, both listed above from the September 29 notice. Everything else in the table has no official counterpart.
Why nothing here modifies the game
Guides to this kind of problem frequently end with a mod, a patched file, or a tool that sits between the game and your machine. This page does not offer any of them, and the reason is not caution for its own sake.
The game runs an anti-cheat layer. The store listing does not name one; a third-party wiki lists Easy Anti-Cheat, which is where that claim comes from. A player post reports that an account was banned after a mod from a mod-hosting site was loaded — a player report rather than a publisher statement, but the kind of report that decides the question when the cost of being wrong is your account.
Should a mod or tool of this kind be mentioned in a discussion thread, understand it as one player's account of their own machine, not as a method with a support path behind it.
What is not confirmed
- What Error 01 is. No publisher material checked here names it or explains it.
- The cause of the crashes. Confirmed to be under investigation, with no attribution published.
- Whether a universal fix will ship. An update is announced without contents, so no fix can be described as coming for any specific symptom.
- The date of that update. Stated as undecided.
- Whether the player-reported steps work. Untested here, and untested by the publisher.
This page will need revisiting when the announced update ships, if a new error code is explained, or if the crash investigation concludes. Until then the honest position is the one above: three official checks and one explained error code, with the most-searched error left unexplained by the people who made the game.

All of these are player posts. None was tested by this page and none is a publisher statement.
- PCGamingWiki — ACE COMBAT 8 — third-party wiki, cited only as the origin of the Easy Anti-Cheat claim. The store listing does not name an anti-cheat product.

Checked on October 15, 2026. Every official statement above is quoted from the publisher's own notices and dated; the three checks and the one explained error code are the complete official set that this check could find, and the absence of an explanation for Error 01 is stated as an absence rather than filled from other sites. The player-report table records what players posted, without instructions, without testing, and with the caveat that an announced update may change any of it. No mod, trainer, injected tool or modified game file is described or linked anywhere on this page, and the reason is given in the section that explains the anti-cheat risk. Anti-cheat attribution is third-party and is marked as such.
Checked on October 15, 2026 against the Steam store listing and the Steam Web API app-details endpoint for ACE COMBAT 8, the publisher's own Steam announcements, and the Steam achievements API. Requirement figures, the DRM notice and the difficulty descriptions are quoted from official sources rather than paraphrased. Where a detail comes from a third-party wiki or from a player post rather than from Bandai Namco Entertainment, it is labelled as exactly that. Anything the publisher has not stated is written as unconfirmed rather than guessed.
Not independently play-tested. This is not a claim that every platform or game version was tested. Source review: Oct 15, 2026.
