Valor Mortis Demo: Current Status and Official Record

The Valor Mortis demo ran in June 2026 and returned in July. Whether it is still on Steam, and exactly what the developer said about it.

Quick answer

One More Level held an open Steam playtest about a year before release, then published a demo "this past June" and announced on July 21, 2026 that the demo was "back on Steam". The studio also states that over 250,000 players played it. As of October 14, 2026 the store data for Valor Mortis lists no demo — a Steam store search for the game returns only the base game and the Deluxe Edition Upgrade — so it is not currently offered through the usual route. When the demo might return, or whether it will, has not been stated officially, and this page does not guess at it.

The short answer

Valor Mortis had a demo, and the demo is no longer listed on Steam. One More Level published it on June 7, 2026, brought it back between July 20 and August 7, took it offline on September 8 — announcing that date in advance — and said that more than 250,000 players had played it.

As of October 14, 2026, the game's own Steam store data lists no demo, and a Steam store search for "Valor Mortis" returns only the base game and the Deluxe Edition Upgrade. The demo's removal is explained; whether it will return, and when, has not been stated.

This page separates a settled removal from an open future. The offline date is the developer's own and is not in question. The developer has said nothing about a return, so anyone telling you it "will" come back, or that it is "permanently" gone, is filling a gap the studio has left open.

What is confirmed

Four things about the demo are on the record, and all four come from the developer's own channels rather than from press coverage.

The developer's own wording credits that feedback directly: it says that "thanks to your feedback, we have improved the game dramatically in the past few months". The demo is therefore not a marketing artefact that existed in parallel to development — it is described as an input into it.

Demo timeline

The demo's history spans a playtest, a first publication and a second one, which is more moving parts than a single demo release suggests.

The "back on Steam" phrasing on July 20 and 21 is what tells you the demo had been unavailable at some point before those dates — the developer's own words describe a return, not a launch. That is a small detail, but it is the difference between a demo that ran continuously and one that came and went.

One thing is settled rather than open: the demo was taken offline in September 2026, weeks before release, and the developer said so in advance. That answers the most common version of the question — the demo did not disappear at launch, and its removal was planned rather than a response to anything.

Current store state

The check behind this section is a direct read of Steam's own data on October 14, 2026, not an inference from a search engine result.

  1. The game's store data lists no demo. Steam's app-details endpoint for Valor Mortis returns no demo entry, and no demo is linked from the game's page.
  2. A store search returns two items. Searching the Steam store for "Valor Mortis" returns the base game and the Deluxe Edition Upgrade — nothing else under that name.

Read together, those two facts support one careful sentence: the demo is not currently offered through the usual Steam route. They do not establish that a demo page never existed, and they do not establish that one will not appear again — the July announcement is proof that an earlier absence was temporary.

If you want to try it first

With no demo listed, the practical options are the ones that exist on the day you read this.

  • Check the game's Steam page yourself. If a demo returns, a download button appears there before anywhere else — that is where its two earlier appearances were announced.
  • On Xbox, Game Pass is the low-cost route. Valor Mortis is included in Game Pass, which lets you play the full game on a subscription instead of paying $39.99 outright — see the release date and platforms page.
  • Steam's refund policy applies to the full game. That is a standard storefront policy rather than anything specific to this title.
Watch for unofficial "demos". When a demo disappears, download sites often host copies of an old build under that name. This site does not link to them, and an unlisted build is not the game the developer released.

What is not stated

The gaps are the reason this page is short. Each of the following is asked about regularly and none has an official answer.

Open questions with no official answer as of October 14, 2026
QuestionOfficial answer
Was the demo removed at release or earlier?Answered — it went offline on September 8, 2026, and the developer announced this in advance
Is the demo permanently delisted? Not stated
Will the demo return after release? Not stated — note that it has already returned once
Does the demo still reflect the released build? No — the developer says it is no longer representative, and its levels were bespoke recreations

Two things are worth drawing out. The first is not speculation: the developer says the game changed "dramatically" after the demo, and it separately states that the demo's levels are "bespoke versions of those chapters that we recreated for Steam Next Fest" rather than the shipped levels. Any impression formed from the demo is therefore an impression of a version that no longer exists, and of levels that were rebuilt.

The second is that the one thing the developer has not addressed is the future. The removal was planned and announced; a return has been neither ruled out nor promised, and this site found no statement either way.

Sources and review scope

The demo's earlier appearances and the 250,000-player figure come from the developer's own announcements and channel. The statement that the demo is not currently listed is a direct read of Steam's data on one date and is the only part of this page that could change without notice. Nothing here predicts whether the demo will return.

How this guide was checked

Checked on October 14, 2026 against the Steam store listing for Valor Mortis, the developer's own Steam announcements and Steam Discussions posts, the official Valor Mortis site, and the Steam Web API. Live details such as player counts, review totals and patch state change quickly and should be rechecked before you rely on them. Anything the developer has not confirmed is written as unconfirmed rather than guessed.
