Planet Zoo 2 colour morphs and animal variants
See confirmed zebra, owl and elephant morph examples, where to identify variants and what the feature does not change.
Applies to: Launch Zoopedia colour variants · examples, not a complete roster
Quick answer
Colour morphs are documented appearance variants tied to a species; they are not a free-form animal editor. Confirmed examples include four plains zebra morphs and albino long-eared owls and African savannah elephants.

What morph means
A colour morph is a documented appearance variant within a species. It changes how an animal looks; it is not a new species, enclosure type or welfare profile. Do not treat user screenshots as proof that every colour can occur in every species.
Confirmed examples
| Species | Documented morphs | Evidence checked |
|---|---|---|
| Plains zebra | Erythristic, amelanistic, pseudomelanistic and part melanistic | Zoopedia-derived species entry |
| Long-eared owl | Albino male and albino female | Zoopedia-derived appearance gallery |
| African savannah elephant | Albino male, female and juvenile | Zoopedia-derived appearance gallery |
These are examples with named or pictured entries, not a claim that the table covers every morph in the 136-species roster.
Where to check variants
Open the species in the in-game Zoopedia and look under its appearance or colour-morph section, then inspect the individual animal or market listing before buying. This matters in Franchise mode because the listing is tied to one animal, while the species page describes possible appearances.
What it does not do
The reviewed official material does not describe a free-form coat editor. Breeding can produce inherited outcomes, but this page does not publish unverified percentages or guarantee a morph from a pairing without current in-game data.
Checking a market animal
Inspect the individual listing rather than relying on the species thumbnail. Record the animal's sex, age, genetics, welfare status and visible variant before spending conservation currency. A rare-looking coat does not cancel poor fertility, age or social fit.
Breeding without invented odds
Use parent records and actual offspring results to learn the current build. Keep a small breeding log if morphs are the goal. The page will add exact inheritance probabilities only when Frontier or reproducible game data supports them.
Avoid lighting mistakes
Night lighting, water colour and habitat filters can change the apparent coat. Compare animals under neutral lighting and use the game's recorded variant name where available before deciding that a new morph has appeared.
