How Much Power Does an Auto Turret Use in Rust?
The confirmed Rust Auto Turret power draw, what its electrical input does, and the separate ammo and authorization checks.
Applies to: PC Rust Auto Turret item and electricity mechanics
Quick answer
A Rust Auto Turret consumes 10 rW of power. Plan a direct supply of at least 10 rW per turret (for example, three turrets require 30 rW before considering other devices); power alone is not enough—the turret also needs a weapon, matching ammunition, and appropriate authorization.

Power draw: 10 rW per turret
The Facepunch Rust Wiki lists the Auto Turret’s power consumption as 10 rW. As a simple planning baseline, two turrets need 20 rW and three need 30 rW for the turrets themselves. Add the demands of any other devices on the circuit separately; generation and wiring losses or configuration should be checked in the live electrical interface.
Wire the turret
- Place the Auto Turret so its firing arc covers the approach you intend to defend.
- Use an Electrical Branch, battery, or other appropriate circuit layout to provide the required supply.
- Connect the circuit output to the turret’s Power In input.
- Inspect the turret’s status and the circuit’s remaining output; one unit reporting no power can indicate a missing connection or insufficient supply after other consumers.
The Wiki describes the turret’s field of view as 180 degrees. Placement direction matters: test the sight line from the turret rather than assuming it covers behind itself or through obstacles.
Power, ammunition, and authorization
Power is only one requirement. The turret also needs a compatible projectile weapon and the matching ammunition loaded. Its status can report conditions such as no weapon/ammo or low ammunition. Authorize intended users through the current turret interaction before relying on it to defend against them. Electrical power does not load ammo, select targets, or replace authorization.
Quick troubleshooting
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| Turret has no power | Confirm Power In is connected, the source is on, and the circuit has at least 10 rW available for this turret. |
| Powered but not firing | Check weapon, matching ammo, line of sight, range, and the turret’s current target status. |
| It targets a teammate | Review the turret’s authorized-user list and current server/game behavior. |
| Several devices stop working | Recalculate the circuit’s total load and inspect branches and source output in-game. |
