Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection — is it fixed now?
What went wrong at launch, which fixes have shipped since, and what the game is like to play today.
Applies to: Legacy Kollection on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch as of October 2026
Quick answer
Legacy Kollection launched on October 30, 2025 with heavy input latency, no lobbies and audio faults. Digital Eclipse has since shipped four hotfixes, an Online Arcade update, a March 2026 update and the Krossplay update on April 28, 2026. That last one added crossplay, online 2v2 and VRR, and Digital Eclipse described those three as the final major features it planned to add. Recent Steam reviews are now Very Positive, while the overall score stays Mixed because launch reviews still count.

How it launched
Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection released on October 30, 2025, and the first week went badly. Reviewers and players reported three clusters of problems at the same time:
- Input latency. The emulated arcade games felt noticeably delayed compared with the originals, and the measurements being shared on PC and PS5 were high enough that competitive players said the games were not usable for serious play.
- Online was unfinished. There were no lobbies, no way to invite a friend, and no crossplay. Online play in that first build was limited and unreliable.
- Audio faults and crashes. Tracks in the collection’s music player and in-game sound dropped out for some players, alongside reports of crashes.
The reaction was strong enough that Sony granted refunds outside its usual policy, and the Steam review score settled at Mixed. Digital Eclipse said at the time that an update around lobbies and online play was already in progress.
What has been fixed
Digital Eclipse shipped a steady run of updates through late 2025 and 2026. Each one is announced on the studio’s own site, which is the source to check rather than a news summary.
| Date | Update | What it added |
|---|---|---|
| November 2025 | Four hotfixes | Stability and audio fixes in the weeks after launch. |
| November 21, 2025 | Lobbies beta | A public beta of the lobby system, run through Steam. |
| December 10, 2025 | Online Arcade | Online Arcade rooms, the Khronicle of the Realms, and Fixed AI Difficulty. |
| March 25, 2026 | Update | Room codes, connection-quality filtering, console AI difficulty and performance work. |
| April 28, 2026 | Krossplay | Cross-platform matchmaking, online 2v2 and VRR support. |
The Krossplay announcement is also where Digital Eclipse stated how much more was planned. The studio wrote that “Krossplay, 2v2 Online, and VRR are the final three major features that we currently plan to add”, adding that bug fixes and improvements would continue.
In practical terms that sentence is the answer to the question in this page’s title: the roadmap the developers set out for the collection has been delivered. What is left is maintenance, not promised features.
What is still missing
Two limits remain, and both are documented rather than rumoured.
| Limit | Detail |
|---|---|
| Player pool is split | The collection contains a large number of online-capable games, so players spread across many playlists rather than one. Finding a match in a less popular title can take longer than in the headline games. |
| Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the original Switch | Digital Eclipse states that the PS1 version of Mortal Kombat Trilogy does not support online Krossplay on the original Nintendo Switch, for technical reasons. It is not a general Switch problem. |
| Online is opt-in | Krossplay is switched off by default. If you never open Online Options, cross-platform matchmaking will not happen. This alone accounts for a share of the “crossplay does not work” posts. |
Is it worth it now
The most useful signal is the gap between the two review figures on Steam. The overall score is still Mixed, because the launch reviews remain in the total and are never removed. The recent reviews covering the period after the 2026 updates are Very Positive.
Both numbers are accurate; they describe different builds. If you are deciding whether to buy today, the recent figure is the one that reflects the software you would actually install.

The collection also picked up external recognition after the fixes: it won Fighting Game of the Year at the 2026 DICE Awards and was nominated in the same category at The Game Awards 2025. The full contents list and the online play guide cover what you are actually buying.
