How to unlock Magick Archer in Dragon's Dogma 2

Name clarification: the vocation is Magick Archer. Searches for “magic archer,” “mystic archer” or “arcane archer” usually mean this class; Mystic Spearhand is a different vocation. The route below is a media walkthrough reviewed October 15, 2026 and has not been replayed on Title Update 4.0.

Before going to Agamen Volcanic Island

• Prepare for the road through Drabnir’s Grotto; PowerPyx lists reaching Agamen Volcanic Island as the quest requirement.
• Carry curatives and a party that can protect a non-combat escort.
• You do not need to rank Archer or Mage first. The unlock is tied to the quest, not a prerequisite vocation rank in the reviewed sources.
• Pawns cannot become Magick Archers. Capcom lists it among the special vocations only the Arisen can acquire.

Find Gautstafr on the southern island road

1. Travel south through Battahl and pass through Drabnir’s Grotto toward Agamen Volcanic Island.
2. Follow the southern road until you meet Gautstafr, a dwarf complaining about his back.
3. Speak to him to begin Put a Spring in Thy Step.
4. Collect and deliver three acceptable wildflowers or herbs. PowerPyx gives Pitywort as a nearby example; use the quest hand-in screen to confirm an item qualifies.
5. Follow Gautstafr to his home on the small island north of the road, crossing the shallow water.

Escort Gautstafr from his home to Geyser Hamlet

1. Enter the home after the scene and speak with Gautstafr again.
2. Accept the escort and stay close enough that he continues moving.
3. Clear enemies yourself; the walkthrough reports that he hangs back instead of fighting.
4. Enter Volcanic Island Camp, follow the wooden ramps and climb the ladder to the hot spring.
5. Reach the marked area at Geyser Hamlet to finish the escort scene.

If he stops, return to him instead of rushing farther toward the marker. PowerPyx also reports that carrying him is possible, but that is a workaround rather than a required step. Escort sequence · Checked October 15, 2026.

Confirm the vocation and Maister teaching

PowerPyx reports that Cliodhna grants the Magick Archer vocation and the Spellbow’s Paradox Maister teaching when the quest completes. Check both the Vocation Guild and inventory before leaving the area. Reward numbers are guide-reported and may change with a patch. Reward evidence · Checked October 15, 2026.

Spellbow’s Paradox is the teaching item, not the vocation unlock itself. If one appears without the other, record the quest state and speak to the involved NPCs again before assuming the save is blocked.

A safe first Magick Archer setup

Capcom’s vocation spotlight shows how the magickal bow plays at range and supports allies. It demonstrates combat abilities, not the Gautstafr escort or the current best skill rotation.

Capcom describes the vocation as combining ranged attacks with the magickal bow and arrows. Start with a simple bar that answers three situations: one reliable single-target attack, one crowd or elemental option and one defensive or party-support tool. Keep the remaining slots for the skills you can actually sustain with your current Stamina.
