Does AION 2 Support Controllers? Steam Input and Setup Checks

What the labels mean

NC's pre-release FAQ said the game was playable with a controller while full support was still being evaluated. A later launch wording reported by the official Steam community FAQ says it is playable but not officially supported. Steam's store page currently shows no Full Controller Support feature.

Valve's Steam Deck “Playable” rating means the game can run with some compromise; it does not promise that every menu, prompt or action is controller-only.

Safe setup checks

1. Close the game, connect the controller, and verify Windows and Steam detect it.
2. Open AION 2 → Properties → Controller in Steam.
3. Test the standard Gamepad template first.
4. If input is absent, test Steam Input enabled and disabled separately, restarting the game between tests.
5. Keep a mouse and keyboard connected for login, text entry and any unmapped interface action.

Do not install remapping drivers from an unknown site. Community layouts can be useful, but they are user-created configurations rather than an NC guarantee.

Known limitations

Player reports disagree by controller type and patch. Some report that selecting the standard template restored input; others still needed a keyboard or lacked enough practical bindings. That inconsistency is exactly why this page avoids saying “full controller support.” Test combat, targeting, inventory, chat and settings before relying on a pad for accessibility.

Steam Deck status

SteamDB currently mirrors a Valve compatibility category of Playable and notes that the game can show non-Deck controller or keyboard/mouse icons. Compatibility may change after client or Proton updates; check the live Steam Deck badge before buying hardware for this game.
