Quick answer

Ellie is 14 during the main story of Part I and 19 during the main events of Part II. Left Behind moves between events before Part I and a gap inside Part I, while Part II begins after a roughly five-year jump. Exact calendar framing differs from the HBO adaptation.

Game timeline

The first game opens on outbreak night, then jumps forward twenty years. Left Behind combines Ellie and Riley’s earlier story with events during the first campaign. Part II begins after a further jump of roughly five years.

Ellie’s age

Official descriptions identify Ellie as 14 in Part I. She is 19 during the main events of Part II. Flashbacks show her at intermediate ages, so screenshots from Part II do not all depict a 19-year-old Ellie.

Where Left Behind belongs

Chronologically, parts occur before Part I, but the present-day thread fills a deliberate gap in Part I. Release order remains the safer spoiler-free recommendation.
