Dragon's Dogma 2 Warfarer — unlock, Rearmament, and build limits
Bring three Newt Liqueurs to Lamond, obtain Rearmament and plan a multi-weapon loadout around its shared skill slots and lower base stats.
Applies to: Base-game Warfarer · Title Update 3.2 six-skill-slot interface; unlock route not retested on Title Update 4.0
Quick answer
Reach Geyser Hamlet on Agamen Volcanic Island, speak to Lamond and complete The Sotted Sage by giving him three Newt Liqueurs. PowerPyx reports that this unlocks Warfarer and that talking to Lamond again may be needed for Grandmaster’s Path, the Rearmament teaching. Warfarer can use every weapon type and learned non-Maister weapon skills, but shares one skill bar, has lower base stats and needs deliberate weapon choices.

Version note: Capcom’s current manual and the official PlayStation preview establish Warfarer’s role. The Sotted Sage route and rewards are from a March 23, 2024 PowerPyx walkthrough. The quest was not replayed on Title Update 4.0, and older four-skill build guides are obsolete after the interface expanded to six slots.
Unlock checklist: Lamond and The Sotted Sage
- Reach Agamen Volcanic Island and enter Volcanic Island Camp.
- Climb the wooden ramps toward the hot spring at Geyser Hamlet.
- Speak to Lamond to begin The Sotted Sage.
- Give him a total of three Newt Liqueurs. A bottle handed over during the first conversation counts in PowerPyx’s walkthrough.
- After the third bottle, confirm that Warfarer appears in the Vocation Guild list.
- Check for Grandmaster’s Path. If Lamond did not hand it over, speak to him again before leaving.
PowerPyx quest walkthrough · Checked October 15, 2026. It reports 980 XP, 500 G, a Rotten Soft-Boiled Egg, the Warfarer vocation and Grandmaster’s Path. These reward numbers are media-reported, not an official current-patch table.
Three ways to obtain Newt Liqueur
| Method | What the walkthrough reports | Practical limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Higgs’s Tavern Stand | Buy three upstairs in Bakbattahl for a reported total of 15,000 G | A human Arisen needs a Beastren Mask for the described access trick; the upstairs merchant may require the encounter state to settle |
| Combine ingredients | Combine Saurian Tail with Fruit Wine | You need both ingredients, so this is not automatically faster |
| Exploration | Bottles can be found while exploring | No guaranteed three-bottle route is established by the reviewed source |
For the tavern route, PowerPyx says to wear a Beastren Mask if the Arisen is human, move a sack into the fenced area outside Higgs’s Tavern, then use the upstairs seller. If combat prevents interaction, its suggested workaround is to rest on a bench and return. Media-reported purchase steps · Checked October 15, 2026.
What Rearmament actually adds
Grandmaster’s Path teaches Rearmament, the Warfarer skill used to move through an equipped weapon sequence without opening the equipment menu. Each weapon exposes its own core actions, and learned weapon skills can be combined across vocations where Warfarer supports them.
The current official control manual shows six weapon-skill inputs. Rearmament still occupies an equipped weapon-skill position when used; this page does not assume the old launch-era four-slot total. Official current control layout · Checked October 15, 2026.
Current-build verification is still needed for the maximum weapon count, carry-weight calculation and every prohibited skill. The page therefore avoids exact numbers for those rules.
Warfarer’s real trade-offs
Capcom’s short vocation spotlight shows weapon switching in combat. It illustrates why a small, planned loadout matters; the clip does not show Lamond’s unlock quest or document the current six-slot interface.
- Lower base stats: the official PlayStation preview says Warfarer’s basic stats are not high, so flexibility does not automatically outperform a specialist.
- One shared skill bar: changing weapon does not create a separate six-skill page for every weapon.
- Maister limits: do not plan the build around another vocation’s Maister skill unless the current guild screen explicitly permits it; published Warfarer documentation describes access to learned skills with important exceptions.
- Sequence cost: too many weapons make the desired swap slower and the loadout harder to remember.
- Equipment investment: several upgraded weapons cost more gold and materials than one focused kit.
Official PlayStation/Capcom vocation preview · Checked October 15, 2026 confirms all weapon types, cross-vocation core skills, flexible combos and the lower-stat/multiple-weapon trade-off.
Build the smallest combination that solves the job
Front line + ranged answer
Pair one durable melee weapon with a bow or magickal bow. Use the second weapon for targets that fly or refuse close range, rather than carrying every category.
Control + heavy hit
Use a control tool to create an opening, then switch to a high-impact weapon. The official preview uses Trickster deception into offensive magick as an example of the vocation’s combo logic.
Traversal utility
Carry one utility weapon alongside the main combat weapon only if its core action changes exploration enough to justify a swap slot and upgrade cost.
