Is there a Mega Pikachu? Mega Raichu and Gigantamax explained

Get the current official answer about Mega Pikachu, Mega Raichu X and Y, and Gigantamax Pikachu.

Scope: Officially announced forms through October 13, 2026

Quick answer

There is no officially announced Mega Pikachu. Pikachu does have a Gigantamax form, which is a different battle transformation. Raichu—not Pikachu—now has two official Mega Evolutions named Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y.

No official Mega Pikachu

As of the review date above, Pokémon’s official game and news pages have not announced a Mega Evolution for Pikachu. Images labeled “Mega Pikachu” on fan sites or social media should therefore be treated as fan concepts unless an official Pokémon source identifies the form.

Gigantamax is different

Pikachu does have an official Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Gigantamax changes a Pokémon during a Dynamax battle and gives Gigantamax Pikachu access to G-Max Volt Crash. It is not a Mega Evolution and does not create a permanent next stage in Pikachu’s evolution line.

Mega Raichu X and Y

Official Pokémon Legends: Z-A — Mega Dimension material identifies Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y. Those forms belong to Raichu, Pikachu’s evolved form. Their announcement does not retroactively create Mega Pikachu.

This is a time-sensitive answer. It was rechecked on October 13, 2026 and should be reviewed again after major official Pokémon announcements.
