Quick answer
One More Level says Valor Mortis is its studio's biggest game and took "over three years". It was revealed in August 2025, the studio held an open Steam playtest about a year before launch, and a demo followed in June 2026 that returned to Steam in July. The game released on October 13, 2026 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The developer has credited feedback from the playtest and demo for improving the game "dramatically" in the final months, and its own videos name Vincent Cassel as Napoleon and Jennifer English as The Shrike. Where a date comes from press reporting rather than the studio, this page says so.

Timeline
Valor Mortis went from an announcement to a released game in about fourteen months, after a development period the developer describes as longer than three years. The milestones below are drawn from the studio's own channels and announcements.

The playtest row is deliberately approximate. The developer's own wording is "one year ago" relative to launch, which is a description rather than a dated event, and this page does not convert it into a precise week.
Three years in development
The studio describes the project's scale in its own terms, and two statements are on the record. From the launch announcement:
"Valor Mortis is our studio's biggest game and we have poured our hearts and souls into it over the past 3 years."
And from a pinned launch message:
"We are launching the game we've poured our hearts into for over three years… It is OUR TAKE on soulslike genre!"
Two things in those quotes are worth separating. The duration — over three years — is a fact about the project. The claim to having a take on the genre is different: it is the developer framing the game as its own interpretation rather than as a member of an established formula, and using the studio's own phrase about itself rather than having a label applied from outside. That framing recurs in its own video explaining why it uses the word soulslike at all.
Playtest and demo
Valor Mortis was publicly playable well before release, in two separate stages, and the developer credits that feedback with changing the game.
"One year ago, we held an open Steam playtest and we shared a Demo this past June. Thanks to your feedback, we have improved the game dramatically in the past few months."
The demo's own history is more eventful than a single release. It appeared in June 2026 alongside the release date trailer, was announced as back for summer events on July 20 — implying a gap — and by August 10 the studio was reporting that more than 250,000 players had played it. A developer video on August 9 responded directly to feedback from it.
The practical consequence is that the released build is not the demo build. The developer says the game changed dramatically after the demo, so pre-release impressions describe a version that no longer exists. The demo status page covers where the demo stands now.
Release
Valor Mortis released on October 13, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, developed by One More Level — the studio behind Ghostrunner — and published by Lyrical Games.
What followed was notably quiet for a launch. No patch had been published in the first two days, and the only technical communication was the developer's Known Issues post on release day. In its launch announcement the studio also set out what comes next: a New Game+ mode "later this year", and a Major Story DLC in 2027. Both are covered on the roadmap page.
Voice cast
The cast was a visible part of the game's promotion rather than a credit buried at the end, and the developer's own videos name the performers.
| Performer | Role | Official video |
|---|---|---|
| Vincent Cassel | Napoleon | "Behind the Scenes with Vincent Cassel as Napoleon" — October 7, 2026 |
| Jennifer English | The Shrike | "Jennifer English is The Shrike in Valor Mortis" — October 6, 2026 |
Only roles the developer's own videos attach to a name are listed. A full cast list has not been published in a form this site could verify, so the table stays at two entries rather than padding out a credit roll.

Milestone dates come from the developer's and publisher's own channels and announcements. The playtest is given as an approximate period because the developer described it relatively rather than dating it. No claim is made about the studio's size, location or history beyond what its own materials state, and no sales or budget figures are offered because none has been published.
