Poké Ball Plus and Mew: what still works with Let’s Go
Understand controller support, the one-time Mew gift and why a used Poké Ball Plus may not include Mew.
Applies to: Poké Ball Plus with Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!
Quick answer
Poké Ball Plus can control Pokémon: Let’s Go and can carry a Pokémon for walks. A new unit originally included one Mew that could be transferred once into one Let’s Go save while connected to the internet. Mew cannot be moved into Let’s Go from Pokémon GO, and resetting or buying a used controller does not restore a Mew that was already claimed.

Using it as a controller
Poké Ball Plus can replace a Joy-Con for the main one-handed actions in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!. Moving the stick controls the trainer, pressing it confirms actions and a throwing motion is used during catches. It does not turn the game into a two-controller competitive mode.
The included Mew
A new Poké Ball Plus originally contains one Mew that can be transferred into one Let’s Go save through the game’s Mystery Gifts menu while online. The gift is tied to the individual accessory and can be claimed only once. Mew cannot be sent into Let’s Go from Pokémon GO as a substitute for this gift.
Used units and resets
Do not assume a used, open-box or returned controller still contains Mew. If its gift was claimed by a previous owner, resetting the controller or starting a new save does not generate another one. A seller showing that the controller works is not proof that the one-time Pokémon remains unclaimed.
Taking a Pokémon for a stroll
The accessory can store a compatible Pokémon from the game for a real-world stroll. The Pokémon remains in the save while the device records activity, and returning it can award in-game benefits. This function is separate from the one-time Mew transfer.
