Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Endings: How to Get the True Ending
The three endings, how the bad one traps you, and the step-by-step route to the true ending — with everything marked as it stands now.

Quick answer
There are three endings. Belmont's Fall (bad) comes from falling for a false climax: a glowing clock in the Clock Tower that is a staged trap, not a finish line. The Hunt Goes On (normal) is the real Dracula fight. Curse Lifted (true) needs extra work: read the prophecy in Notre-Dame, ring the four Bells of Virtue and take their Blessings, beat your own shadow for the Absolution spell, then beat Dracula again and cast Absolution inside a short window. The bad and normal endings do not lock your save — pick Resume and keep going.

At a glance
There are three endings, and the bad one is easy to walk into by accident because it looks like a finish. The good news: the bad and normal endings do not lock your save, so you can keep going rather than start over.
| Ending | Achievement / trophy | How you reach it |
|---|---|---|
| Bad | Belmont's Fall | Follow the sealed clock in the Clock Tower |
| Normal | The Hunt Goes On | Beat the real Dracula fight |
| True | Curse Lifted | Four Virtues, beat your shadow, then Dracula again |
The three endings
The structure is deliberately misleading. One apparent conclusion is a trap, one is the honest finish, and the third is the real ending and is never explained in-game. The game tracks none of it for you, so a little preparation saves a lot of backtracking.
The bad ending
The Clock Tower contains a large glowing clock that reads like a story marker. Interacting with it opens a fight and rolls credits — and it is staged. According to third-party walkthroughs, the scene reveals the detour was bought with time, and Dracula's power returns. That is Belmont's Fall. The important part is what happens next: choose Resume on the title screen. Rose returns to a Mirror of Life with the Ferryman available, your gear and map intact, and the objective still open. To avoid the trap on a fresh route, the walkthroughs describe taking the Path of the Builder rather than the Clock Tower Bridge.
The normal ending
Fighting through Clock Keeper's Atrium and the surrounding areas leads to the real throne room, where the confrontation has two stages — a humanoid phase and a winged phase. Beating both gives you The Hunt Goes On. It reads like a win, but the curse is still on Rose. Again, Resume keeps your progress.
The true ending
The true ending is four steps that the game never presents as a checklist:
- Read the prophecy in Notre-Dame. It says four Virtue bells must ring and humanity must overcome its Self — the only hint you get that there is more to do.
- Ring all four Bells of Virtue and take their Blessings. Each Virtue is a physical bell you strike, not a menu choice, and each ends with a Blessing: Courage, Temperance, Justice and Prudence. Finding a bell is not the same as completing it — check that you actually received the Blessing.
- Beat your own shadow. An altar beneath the glowing Rose window takes you to a fight against your shadow, which awards the Shadow Work achievement and the Absolution spell.
- Beat Dracula again — and cast Absolution. Return to the throne room with the Self Arcana equipped, win the two-stage fight again, and hold the spell button within the short window after the final dialogue.
The window is the step people fail. Third-party guides put it at roughly twelve seconds after the post-battle dialogue; let it pass and you get the normal ending instead, and you will have to redo the fight. Some guides also describe disarming the Clock Tower trap first; that is a third-party detail rather than something KONAMI states.
Common mistakes
- Restarting after the bad ending. Do not — Resume keeps everything.
- Thinking the true ending is automatic. Having the Absolution spell equipped is not enough; you have to cast it in time.
- Ringing a bell and moving on. Confirm the Blessing was granted before you leave.
- Missing a Blessing due to fast travel arriving late. Plan saves at Mirrors of Life as you work through Notre-Dame; convenient travel opens up close to this stage rather than early.
What is not official
KONAMI has not published ending conditions or a true-ending guide. Everything above comes from third-party walkthroughs that broadly agree with each other on the four Virtues, the shadow fight and the Absolution cast, but that are not independent of one another in every detail. The safe core is the sequence in the four steps; details such as the exact time window are reported rather than official.

All three sources are third-party walkthroughs. They agree on the structure, which is why the four-step route is presented as reliable; they are not fully independent of each other on every detail, so specifics such as the exact timing window are marked as reported.
