Terraria price and where to buy it in 2026

Compare the official price on each platform, confirm there is no free version, and avoid unverified APK downloads.

Quick answer

Terraria’s standard price is US$9.99 on Steam and it is discounted often; at the time of checking it was 50% off at US$4.99. Console, iOS and Android each sell their own official version, usually around the same price. There is no free or ad-supported official version, so any site offering the full game as an APK for free is not a Re-Logic release.

Where to buy

Buy from the platform’s own store. Each official listing is the only place a legitimate copy comes from.

  • PC. Steam, and separately on GOG.
  • Console. The Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store or Nintendo eShop, depending on your console.
  • Mobile. The App Store on iOS and Google Play on Android.

There is no official cross-buy. Buying on Steam does not give you the console or mobile version, which matters because the platforms do not currently play together.

Is there a free version?

No. There is no free, free-to-play or ad-supported official version of Terraria on any platform. What exists instead is a permanent low price plus regular deep discounts, which is where the “Terraria is basically free” idea comes from.

Two things that are genuinely free and separate from the game:

  • tModLoader, the mod loader, is a free standalone app on Steam. It is unofficial content and needs the base game to matter — see the mods page.
  • The official dedicated server is a free download from terraria.org, but it is a server component, not a playable copy.

Why to avoid APK downloads

Searches for a Terraria APK return a large volume of sites offering the full game outside Google Play. Those files are not published by Re-Logic, and this page does not link to any of them. The risks are ordinary but real: repackaged code, no updates, and no route back to your purchases or saves.

If cost is the barrier, the cheaper legitimate moves are:

  1. Wait for a seasonal sale — Terraria is discounted several times a year.
  2. Check each storefront separately; Steam, console and mobile discounts do not run at the same time.

Sources and review scope

Prices are checked at a single point in time and are labelled as such. This page does not claim to track live pricing, and console and mobile prices are described by storefront rather than quoted, because they are set per region by each platform holder.
