How to start Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen

Check the required story progress, Brant dialogue, nighttime location, recommended levels and Unmoored World limitation before starting.

Applies to: Dark Arisen launch build · normal-world and Unmoored World saves

Quick answer

Install and enable the Dark Arisen expansion, reach Vernworth in the main-story prologue, then speak with Captain Brant at The Stardrop Inn. Capcom confirms this unlock point. PC Gamer reports visiting at night and choosing “About the new Arisen…” for Norgan or “About the uncovered ruins…” for Lost Rites. Norgan’s level 40 and Lost Rites’ level 20 figures are recommendations, not gates.

Evidence key: Capcom confirms the early-story unlock point and recommended levels. The exact dialogue labels and Unmoored World behavior below are launch-build reporting from PC Gamer, not an official troubleshooting promise.

Requirements before you go to Brant

  • Own the base game and the Dark Arisen expansion on the same platform account.
  • Install the current game update and confirm the expansion is enabled.
  • Progress through the prologue until you reach Vernworth.
  • Have access to Captain Brant at the city tavern.

Official: Capcom says both expansion routes become accessible after reaching Vernworth and speaking with Brant at the tavern. It does not describe level 20 or 40 as a hard unlock. Capcom “Arise Again” announcement · Checked October 15, 2026.

Start Norgan or Lost Rites

1 · Go at night

PC Gamer’s launch walkthrough places Brant inside The Stardrop Inn at night.

2 · Speak to Brant

Open his topic list after the normal Vernworth prerequisite is complete.

3A · Norgan

Choose “About the new Arisen…” to begin Chilling Tidings, the reported Forsaken Dominion route.

3B · Lost Rites

Choose “About the uncovered ruins…” for the separate dungeon route.

Media guide: the topic wording, nighttime detail and quest name come from PC Gamer’s October 8 walkthrough · Checked October 15, 2026. Read the current in-game text if localization or a patch changes the label.

Level 40 and level 20 are recommendations

RouteOfficial starting recommendationWhat it means
Forsaken Dominion / NorganLevel 40A preparation reference; later encounters become harder
Lost RitesLevel 20A starting reference for the dungeon content, not a universal difficulty guarantee

Capcom explicitly says players may attempt the content below those levels after the Vernworth unlock. Party equipment, Pawn composition and player familiarity still affect practical readiness. Developer Q&A · Checked October 15, 2026.

If the save is already in the Unmoored World

PC Gamer reports that a character in the Unmoored World must reach New Game+ before accessing the expansion routes. The same report mentions the carry-over restart option introduced with the current update. Restarting can replace current quest progress, so read the in-game confirmation and protect the save before using it. This page has not independently tested every endgame save state.

If Brant has no new dialogue

  1. Verify the store account owns the standalone expansion or a bundle that includes it.
  2. Check the platform’s manage-content screen for an installed/enabled DLC entry.
  3. Update the game, restart it, reach Vernworth and try The Stardrop Inn at night.
  4. Confirm the save is not currently in the Unmoored World.
  5. Record platform, displayed build number, story objective and the dialogue options shown before contacting support.

These are diagnostic checks, not a claim that every absent-dialogue case has the same cause. Do not delete or overwrite a save solely to test the DLC.
