Quick answer

The Steam version supports solo play and online co-op for up to four players total. Progress carries between solo and multiplayer, but each player must personally reach a checkpoint for that objective to count. Funselektor says cross-play is supported, while local split-screen co-op is not available.

Player limit and modes

Solo

Every area can be played alone. Online connectivity is not a requirement for starting a solo route, although the Steam minimum lists broadband for online features.

Online co-op

A session supports up to four players total: one host and as many as three friends.

The store labels the multiplayer feature as Online Co-op. The developer FAQ does not describe competitive races or a separate campaign that must be selected for co-op.

How progress works

Progress and completed objectives transfer between single-player and multiplayer. Cooperation does not remove the individual completion check: if an objective requires reaching a checkpoint, every player must reach that checkpoint for their own progress to count.

  1. Agree on the objective before splitting up.
  2. Help stuck vehicles with tools and winches, but keep each player’s checkpoint requirement in mind.
  3. Before leaving an area, confirm that every player has received the objective completion rather than assuming the host’s completion applies to everyone.

For large meteorites, use separate direct winch lines from each helper vehicle to the rock. See the meteorite extraction guide for the developer-documented setup.

Cross-play and local co-op

FeatureCurrent answerImportant limit
Cross-playThe official FAQ says yesOnly the Steam release is currently live; console implementation cannot be tested before those versions release
Local split-screenNot availableThe developer said implementing local co-op was not feasible
Shared objective progressProgress transfers between solo and multiplayerEach player still has to satisfy personal checkpoint conditions

Before joining a session

  • Use the same current game build; install pending updates first.
  • Choose a nearby server region when the lobby interface offers one.
  • Bring recovery equipment suited to the route rather than relying on the host’s loadout.
  • If progress appears missing, verify the personal checkpoint before treating it as a save failure.
Version boundary: “cross-play” is an official promise, but this page does not claim that unreleased console versions can connect today or that every future console pair has been independently tested.

How this guide was checked

The player limit, individual checkpoint rule, shared single-player/multiplayer progress, cross-play statement, and lack of local co-op come from Funselektor’s pinned FAQ. Store features confirm online co-op.
