Terraria version status: current releases and the next update
See the current version on every platform, what 1.4.5 changed, and where the crossplay update officially stands.
Applies to: PC, console and mobile builds as of October 2026
Quick answer
Terraria runs the 1.4.5 line on every current platform. PC is on 1.4.5.8, and Xbox, PlayStation, mobile and Switch are on 1.4.5.8.1. The next release is 1.4.6, which Re-Logic describes as Crossplay Phase One; it is in final testing with no announced date.

Current versions
Terraria is on the 1.4.5 line everywhere it is still supported. The build number differs by platform because PC receives hotfixes first.
| Platform | Version | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PC (Steam, GOG) | 1.4.5.8 | PC moved onto 1.4.5.7 on August 19, 2026 and has taken further hotfixes since. |
| Xbox · PlayStation | 1.4.5.8.1 | Console picked up 1.4.5.8.1 on September 17, 2026. |
| Mobile (iOS, Android) | 1.4.5.8.1 | Mobile received 1.4.5.8.1 on September 17, 2026. |
| Nintendo Switch | 1.4.5.8.1 | Switch received 1.4.5.8.1 on September 22, 2026. |
Nintendo Switch is the one platform that lagged behind the others by roughly a week on the same patch. Treat the platform you actually play on as its own build rather than assuming a single global version number.
What 1.4.5 changed
1.4.5, subtitled “Bigger and Boulder”, released on January 27, 2026 and was the largest content update Terraria has had in years. Re-Logic’s announcement and the full patch notes describe:
- More than 650 new items, taking the item count above 6,000.
- Close to 900 bug fixes.
- Nine new whips, aimed at the Summoner class.
- Two crossovers: Palworld and Dead Cells.
- A new seed selection window, and special world seeds that can be combined.
- Changes to town NPCs, including villagers arriving without a spare house.
- Interface additions such as a searchable crafting window and a boss damage tracker.
The crossover content page and the world seeds page cover two of those items in detail.
The next update
The next major release is 1.4.6, and Re-Logic has tied it directly to crossplay. In its September 24, 2026 state-of-the-game post, Re-Logic described 1.4.6 as Crossplay Phase One and said it was in final testing and being prepared for platform certification. No release date has been published.
What that post does confirm:
- Phase One gives console players local network play and direct IP-and-port connections.
- Phase Two, which is not part of 1.4.6 as described, is the join-code system that works across different networks without router configuration.
The practical reading is that any specific 1.4.6 date you see on a news site is an estimate, not an announcement. See the crossplay guide for what changes for players.
Why platforms differ
PC is the lead platform. Content and fixes are built there first, then ported by the console and mobile teams, then submitted for platform certification. That pipeline is the reason console and mobile sat on an older build for about a month after 1.4.5.7 landed on PC, and the reason Switch landed on 1.4.5.8.1 five days after Xbox, PlayStation and mobile.
Practically, this means:
- Check your own platform’s version in the main menu before following patch-specific advice.
- If a fix exists on PC but not on console, waiting is usually the only option — the port has to be certified.
- Do not read a PC hotfix number as a console release date.
