Valor Mortis System Requirements and the Upscaling Caveat
Official Valor Mortis PC requirements, what changed since the June demo, and why the listed frame rates depend on upscaling.
Applies to: The Valor Mortis PC system requirements as published on Steam, checked on October 14, 2026
Quick answer
The Steam listing asks for a Ryzen 5 3600 or Core i5-10600K, 16 GB of RAM, an RX 5600 XT or GTX 1660 Ti and 60 GB of SSD storage at minimum, targeting 30 FPS at 1080p on Low. Recommended is a Ryzen 7 5800X or Core i5-13400 with an RX 6800 or RTX 3070 for 60 FPS at 1440p on Medium. Both target figures carry the developer's own qualifier "with upscaling", so they assume resolution upscaling is switched on, which is exactly why a Steam discussion thread asks why the requirements are posted that way. The minimums listed now are lower than the ones published during the June demo — a change press outlets reported, though the developer has issued no statement about it.

At a glance
Valor Mortis asks for a mid-range PC and, notably, an SSD in both of its requirement tiers — the listing marks SSD as required for the minimum profile as well as the recommended one. The two published frame-rate targets each carry a qualifier that most summaries drop.
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 / 11 | Windows 10 / 11 |
| Processor | Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i5-10600K | Ryzen 7 5800X / Core i5-13400 |
| Memory | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| Graphics | RX 5600 XT / GTX 1660 Ti | RX 6800 / RTX 3070 |
| DirectX | 12 | 12 |
| Storage | 60 GB, SSD required | 60 GB, SSD required |
| Target | 30 FPS at 1080p, Low, with upscaling | 60 FPS at 1440p, Medium, with upscaling |
Minimum
The minimum is a genuine floor rather than a formality: a Ryzen 5 3600 or i5-10600K paired with an RX 5600 XT or GTX 1660 Ti is a card from several generations back, and 16 GB of system memory is the same figure as the recommended tier. That last detail is unusual and worth reading as a signal — this build does not appear to be asking for more memory at higher settings, it is asking for a better GPU and CPU.
The stated result is 30 FPS at 1080p on the Low preset. That is playable but is not the experience the game is built to deliver, and the qualifier attached to it is covered further down this page.
Recommended
The recommended tier roughly doubles the graphics requirement while leaving memory unchanged: an RX 6800 or RTX 3070 on top of a Ryzen 7 5800X or i5-13400, for 60 FPS at 1440p on Medium. There is a wide gap between an RX 5600 XT and an RX 6800, which means the two tiers are describing quite different machines rather than adjacent ones.
The upscaling caveat
This is the single most important qualifier on the store page, and it is the reason a Steam discussion thread exists titled "why are system reuqirements posted with upscaling?" — a player thread that, as of October 14, 2026, had drawn 10 replies. The misspelling is the poster's, and it is reproduced here rather than corrected.
Resolution upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs it at your display resolution. When a target frame rate is quoted "with upscaling", the hardware listed is being asked to hit that figure on a smaller internal image than the output suggests. Dropping the qualifier — which most summaries of these requirements do — turns a conditional figure into an unconditional one, and then anyone running without upscaling concludes the requirements are wrong.
The honest reading is narrow and useful: with upscaling on, this hardware is the developer's stated target for this frame rate and preset. Anything beyond that is your configuration, not the store page's promise.
Changed since the demo
The minimums published now are lower than the ones published earlier in 2026, and the storage figure moved in the opposite direction. The comparison below reflects the figures reported at each point.
| When | Minimum CPU | Minimum GPU | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| October 2025 (playtest build) | Ryzen 5 2600 / Core i5-8600K | RTX 2070 / RX 5700 XT | SSD, no figure given |
| June 2026 (demo period) | Ryzen 7 3700X / Core i7-11700 | RX 6700 / RTX 2070 Super | 50 GB |
| October 13, 2026 (current) | Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i5-10600K | RX 5600 XT / GTX 1660 Ti | 60 GB |
The three snapshots do not describe one direction of change. The playtest build asked for 8 GB of system memory and an SSD with no storage figure attached; the demo period saw the CPU and GPU floor raised and a 50 GB storage requirement listed; and the current listing asks for 16 GB on both tiers with a CPU and GPU floor lower than the demo's, plus 60 GB of storage. That is a requirement list that was revised more than once, not one that was simply cut.
Storage and SSD
Storage is the requirement most likely to catch you out, for three reasons.
- SSD is required on both tiers. Not recommended — required, on minimum as well as recommended. A mechanical drive is outside the published specification.
- The figure is 60 GB. It appears in both profiles, so it is a single number rather than a range, and it has risen since the demo period.
- Required space is not the same as downloaded size. A store listing describes the space the installed game needs; the download and any temporary working space during patching are separate concerns. Leave headroom rather than filling a drive to exactly 60 GB.
The full platform picture, including which systems the game does and does not support, is on the release date and platforms page.

- Valor Mortis — Steam Discussions — source for the player thread asking why requirements are posted with upscaling, cited as evidence that the qualifier is a real point of confusion rather than an editorial invention.
- Press reporting on the requirement change, syndicated through the game's Steam news feed on October 13, 2026 — source for the demo-period minimums (Ryzen 7 3700X / Core i7-11700, RX 6700 / RTX 2070 Super, 50 GB) and for the storage increase to 60 GB. The outlet that reported it is a Russian-language site and the figures are reproduced as it published them.
The playtest-row figures are the developer's own; the demo-period figures come from press reporting rather than from a developer statement, and the developer has published no explanation of any revision. No claim is made about how any specific machine will perform, and no performance figure is extrapolated from the requirements.
