FiveM Not Launching or Crashing? Official Fixes by Error
A fix list mapped to FiveM’s official Client Issues: crashes, bans, dll errors, ROS token, stuck screens, and the limits of what Cfx.re documents.
Applies to: FiveM client errors · Cfx.re Client Issues · ban/kick boundary
Quick answer
Match your error to Cfx.re’s Client Issues: crashes on one server mean contact that server’s owners; "Error loading component xyz.dll" means delete caches.xml; a stuck rotating splash means delete ros_id.dat and digitalentitlements; a ROS token error means an antivirus block (submit a ticket). FiveM does not intervene in individual server bans — those are the server owner’s decision.

Evidence key: Official means Cfx.re / FiveM documentation (Client Issues); community / unconfirmed means player reports that Cfx.re does not document. Every source below was reviewed October 20, 2026.
Crashes while playing on a server
Official: crashes are often server-specific. Cfx.re advises joining the FiveM.net testing server first; if that works, the problem is with the server you were on — contact that server's owners. If the test server also crashes, the cause is likely on your side. Official Client Issues · Checked October 20, 2026.
Bans and kicks
- Banned on a server: FiveM is not responsible for what you do on servers or what server admins do to you. If you believe a ban is false, contact the server owners — FiveM does not and will not provide support for individual server bans. (Official.)
- Globally banned from FiveM: Cfx.re points to a dedicated support article for this. (Official.)
Why a specific kick or server ban happens (anti-cheat trigger vs. a server rule) is decided by the server and is not disclosed by Cfx.re. Treat any "why was I kicked" answer that claims a precise reason as a player theory, not official fact.
Errors by message (official fixes)
| Message | Official fix |
|---|---|
| Could not find game executable | Dedicated support article (verify the GTA V path / installation). |
| FiveM is already installed | Use the Start menu shortcut, not the downloaded FiveM.exe. Reinstall properly if you deleted it. |
| Game storage outdated | Dedicated support article (let FiveM update its game build). |
| Error generating ROS entitlement token | Antivirus block — submit a Cfx.re support ticket. |
| Error loading component xyz.dll | Delete caches.xml from the app data folder; if absent, delete the whole app data folder and re-run. |
| Error loading component adhesive.dll | Outdated Windows 10 — update to at least version 1703 (winver to check). |
| Opening database (privcache:/) failed: IO error | Dedicated support article (usually another FiveM process or file lock). |
| Entry Point Not Found | Delete leftover v8.dll, v8_libbase.dll, v8_libplatform.dll from C:\Windows\system32 if present. |
| Moving of xyz.exe failed (err = 32) | Close FiveM processes in Task Manager, or submit an antivirus support ticket. |
| Stuck on "Starting FiveM, we're getting there" | Often aggressive antivirus — submit a support ticket. |
| Stuck on a rotating splash screen | Delete %appdata%\citizenfx\ros_id.dat and %localappdata%\digitalentitlements. |

Colored background, no menu
Official: this happens on specific older AMD laptop GPUs and is caused by CEF, not FiveM. It resolves once CEF is updated and FiveM picks it up. A forum moderator topic exists with a possible workaround. Official Client Issues · Checked October 20, 2026.
Dropping frames with decent hardware
Official: if frames drop, Cfx.re suggests capturing a "trace" (a record of game function calls developers use to find slow paths) and following the trace support article. Official Client Issues · Checked October 20, 2026.
