Quick answer
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is a brand-new 2D action-exploration game from KONAMI and Evil Empire (with Motion Twin advising), released on October 15, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam and Nintendo Switch. You play Rose Belmont in a burning Paris in 1499, 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. It is not a remake and not a roguelike, and it shares no story continuity with the Netflix animated series — it follows that show's family line, not that show's plot.

At a glance
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse is a brand-new game, not a remake and not a remaster. It is a 2D action-exploration title — KONAMI's own label for it — built by KONAMI and Evil Empire, and it released on October 15, 2026.

What kind of game it is
KONAMI calls it a 2D action-exploration game and describes the pitch as "faster and more fluid gameplay" showing the growth of Rose Belmont. In practice that means a single large, connected world — a burning Paris plus Dracula's castle — that you open up as you gain abilities, rather than a set of discrete stages with an end-of-level screen. Critics overwhelmingly describe it as a Metroidvania, although KONAMI itself avoids that word on its product page.
Who makes it
It is a joint project. KONAMI and Evil Empire developed it together, and Motion Twin is credited as an advising studio. Evil Empire and Motion Twin are the studios behind Dead Cells, which is why a lot of the pre-release discussion framed the combat as carrying that DNA. Konami Digital Entertainment publishes it.
Remake, roguelike or new
Three questions come up repeatedly, and all three have clear answers:
- A remake? No. It is an original story set 23 years after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, with a new protagonist. Nothing in KONAMI's material describes it as a remake or remaster of an older title.
- A roguelike? No. The developers' earlier games are roguelikes, but Belmont's Curse is not built around runs. It is a linear-in-progress exploration game with a persistent save.
- A spin-off? No. KONAMI presents it as a new mainline entry in the Castlevania series, and it arrived in the series' 40th anniversary year.
Its link to the Netflix show
Rose's parents — Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades — are the leads of the Netflix animated Castlevania series, so the game picks up one generation later in the same family line. That is the whole of the connection: Konami and Evil Empire have not presented the game as continuing the show's plot, and the game is a separate story that happens to follow the same bloodline.
Where it sits in the series
KONAMI frames Belmont's Curse as part of a wider Castlevania revival and has said publicly that it wants to bring series entries out faster rather than leaving another long gap. Treat that as intent, not as a dated roadmap — nothing about specific future titles is scheduled. The game's own "System" page keeps the series' familiar furniture: the whip, bosses drawn from Castlevania's back catalogue, and a castle to open up.
What is not confirmed
- A post-launch roadmap. No DLC, season pass or dated update plan has been published.
- A boss total. KONAMI has named boss characters but not a number.
- Any extra platform. Five platforms shipped; nothing else is announced.
