WARDOGS Servers: Community Servers, Ping Limits and Server Types

Region-based ping limits in full, what patch 0.11 fixed for community servers, and the honest state of Infantry Mode and Low-Level servers.

Quick answer

WARDOGS uses a server browser with four categories: Official, Community, Infantry Mode and Low-Level. Season 2 added region-based ping limits on official servers, kicking players who consistently exceed a region threshold, excluding server-side lag spikes from the measurement, and blocking a kicked player from rejoining that server until the next map transition. Community admins set their own ping limits and can ban players, though those bans are theirs and not reviewable by the developer. Infantry Mode and Low-Level servers appear in the deploy menu and were described as modifiers, but the developer has never published what either one changes. No official statement names dedicated Middle East servers; Asian capacity was increased in patch 0.11.

At a glance

WARDOGS uses a server browser rather than matchmaking, and Season 2 added region-based ping limits to it. The two things people search for most — how to play on a community server, and what "Infantry Mode" means — have very different evidence behind them: the first is documented in detail, the second is a phrase the developer has used exactly once without defining it.

Server categories in the game, and how well each one is documented
CategoryWhat is knownEvidence strength
Official serversRegion-based maximum ping, enforcedDetailed — Season 2 patch notes
Community serversRented by players, admin-set rules and ping limits, persistent IDsDetailed — 0.11 patch and Season 2
Low-Level serversNamed as a category in the deploy menuName only — never defined
Infantry ModeNamed as a category in the deploy menuName only — never defined
The honest summary. Two of the four categories are documented properly and two are just labels. This page explains the two documented ones fully, and for the other two it says what the developer wrote and stops there. If you came here for Infantry Mode's rules, the answer is that the developer has not published any.

Ping limits: the full official description

Season 2 introduced region-based ping limits, and the patch notes describe the behaviour in more detail than any other server feature. The passage is quoted here in full because each line answers a different complaint from the launch period:

BULKHEAD on ping limits: "We've introduced region-based ping limits to improve network reliability and ensure a fairer experience for everyone. Note: These initial values will be quite lenient as we hone in on appropriate values."

"Official Servers will now enforce different maximum ping limits depending on their region."
"Players who consistently exceed a server's ping limit over a sustained period will be automatically kicked (this helps protect against temporary spikes)."
"Server-side lag spikes are also excluded from ping measurements to prevent unfair kicks."
"Players kicked for high ping will be unable to rejoin the same server until the next map transition."

Four details in that passage are worth separating, because they are commonly conflated:

  1. The limit varies by region. It is not one global number. A server in one region can enforce a different maximum from a server in another, and the developer has not published the per-region values.
  2. Kicks need sustained excess, not a spike. The wording is "consistently exceed ... over a sustained period", and the stated reason is to protect against temporary spikes. A single bad moment should not remove you.
  3. Server-side lag is excluded. If the server itself stutters, that time is not counted against your ping. This is the part that matters most for players whose connection is fine but whose server is not.
  4. Being kicked has a rejoin cost. You cannot rejoin that same server until the next map transition. This is why a kick can feel like a longer ban than it is.

On the numbers themselves the developer is explicit that they are provisional: "initial values will be quite lenient as we hone in on appropriate values". So a threshold quoted in a guide, a video or a forum post is either out of date or invented — the developer has published no figure at all, only the mechanism.

The browser was changed to support the system at the same time: "Added maximum ping tags and filters to the server browser, making it easier to find servers with suitable connections." If you are being kicked repeatedly, the tag is the tool the developer built to fix it, and it is more reliable than guessing at regions.

Community servers: what 0.11 fixed

The community server situation is one of the few places where the developer has publicly criticised its own work, and the admission is worth quoting because it explains why the features below exist:

Patch 0.11, September 12, 2026: "It's time we own up. Community Servers have been underserved and the server browser experience as a whole has been poor. It is clear to us that we have not put the same amount of care and passion into Community Servers that we have into the rest of the game." The same post adds: "We got this bit wrong."
Community server changes shipped in patch 0.11
ChangeWhat it means in practice
Front end split into Community and Official browsersTwo lists instead of one mixed list
Server IDs persist between matches and restartsYou can rejoin the same server by ID; previously IDs were wiped on map change and restart
Text search addedFind a server by name rather than scrolling
Filter reliability improvedFilters were unreliable before this patch
Show Empty/Full added to the quick barSeeding an empty server became practical
Naming rules enforcedAlphabetical ordering regardless of special characters; no more than one consecutive space

The persistent ID comes with a caveat the notes state directly: each server now has its own unique ID "however the number will be much longer for security reasons". So the ID is stable now, but it is not a short code you can memorise easily.

Community admins also set their own ping limits, which is the half of the ping system that gets overlooked: "Community Server admins will be able to configure their own ping limits, allowing for cross regional play (or more stringent rules) if desired." An official server's region limit is not a ceiling on what a community server may allow.

Two further points about community servers, both from official sources:

  • Bans there are not the developer's decisions. The enforcement policy states that server admins "can kick or ban players from their own servers for any reason", that those bans affect that server only, and that the developer does not review or overturn them. A community ban is a matter between you and the people running that server.
  • Developers' bans do reach community servers. The same policy says a suspension, permanent ban or hardware ban "blocks you from all online play, including on community servers". The two systems are not equivalent in reach.

Infantry Mode and Low-Level servers: what the developer actually wrote

This is the largest documentation gap in the game's server system, and it is worth being precise about how small the official record is. The phrase "Infantry Mode" appears in one announcement — the 0.1.2 minor patch of September 30, 2026 — and nowhere else in the 81 announcements reviewed for this page. Neither the store description, the pinned FAQ, nor the Season 2 patch notes define it.

The only official mentions: "This update also includes minor UI changes to help increase traffic toward Infantry Mode and Low-Level servers, as well as some other minor quality of life improvements." — and, in the same patch, a new deploy flow: "Hit deploy and choose Official, Community, Infantry Mode or Low-Level servers. This is the first step intended to help signpost players toward servers running these modifiers."

Everything that can be concluded from those two sentences:

  • Both are server categories you select at the deploy screen, alongside Official and Community.
  • Both are described as "modifiers" — the notes' own word for what those servers run. That is a statement about configuration, not about rules.
  • The developer's stated goal was to increase traffic toward them, which implies they existed and were under-used before the UI change.

What cannot be concluded, and therefore is not stated here: what Infantry Mode restricts, whether vehicles are disabled, whether it is official or community-hosted, what Low-Level caps, or which levels it refers to. The word "modifiers" is the only technical hint, and a modifier can mean almost anything.

Why this page will not describe Infantry Mode's rules. The internet has explanations for it, and they are inferences from the name plus one or two play sessions. A page that states "Infantry Mode disables vehicles" without the developer saying so is guessing at a game mode. The reliable way to find out is to open the deploy screen and read the server description — that is the developer's own text, and it is more current than anything written here.

Regions: what is confirmed and what is not

Region questions are common, and the official record answers one of them while leaving the rest open.

What the developer has said about server regions
Region questionOfficial position
Are there region-based ping limits?Yes — stated in the Season 2 patch notes
What are the per-region thresholds? Not published
Was Asian capacity increased?Yes — announced in patch 0.11
Are there dedicated Middle East servers? No statement found in any official channel

The Asian capacity line is explicit and is the only regional commitment in the material reviewed: "We have increased the server capacity in the Asian region to support the interest coming from that region... We will be putting more focus into supporting Asia as an important part of the worldwide Wardogs playerbase." That is a capacity statement, not a list of server locations.

For the Middle East, the honest answer is that no official announcement mentions dedicated servers there. That is different from saying they do not exist — a server list can contain locations that were never announced. Check the browser rather than a guide.

What this page deliberately does not provide

  • A live server status list. There is no public endpoint for it, and any list would be stale within minutes. The in-game browser is the only current source.
  • Per-region ping thresholds. The developer states that limits exist and that the initial values are lenient, and publishes no numbers.
  • Infantry Mode and Low-Level rules. Undefined in every official channel reviewed.
  • Server tickrate. No official statement exists. It is discussed on forums as a number, and this page does not repeat it, because a player's estimate of a server's tick rate is not a measurement.
  • Error codes and crash fixes. Deliberately out of scope here — that is the launch errors page's job, and repeating it would leave two pages giving the same advice in different words.

Sources and review scope

Every server behaviour described here comes from a patch note or the enforcement policy. Where the record stops — Infantry Mode's rules, per-region thresholds, Middle East servers, tickrate — the page says so instead of filling the gap. No forum thread or video is used as a source for how any server type works.

How this guide was checked

Checked on October 19, 2026 against the Steam store listing and the Steam Web API for app 1867240, the developer's own Steam announcements including the Season 2 patch notes dated October 14, 2026, the current-player and achievement endpoints, the public review endpoint, and the four policy pages published on wardogs.com. Figures are quoted from those sources rather than paraphrased, and each one carries the date it was read. Where a detail comes from a press report, a third-party site or a player post rather than from BULKHEAD or Team17, it is labelled as exactly that. Anything the developer has not stated is written as unconfirmed rather than guessed.
