Quick answer
Dark Arisen is the paid Dragon’s Dogma 2 expansion released October 9, 2026: Norgan’s Forsaken Dominion story, 12 Lost Rites dungeons, relic appraisal and extra character-creation options. Existing owners can buy the expansion separately. PC Gamer’s access guide starts at Captain Brant in Vernworth’s Stardrop Inn at night; level 40 is the official starting recommendation for Norgan. Hard Mode belongs to the accompanying base-game Title Update 4.0. See the linked, dated evidence below.

Evidence key: Official means Capcom’s announcement or product listing; media guide means a reported walkthrough; community means player reports. Every source below was reviewed October 15, 2026. Story spoilers are limited to the expansion premise.
Is Dark Arisen released now?
Yes. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen released on October 9, 2026. Capcom’s current Steam store page lists the expansion for sale and its October 9 launch item says it is live. This page therefore treats pre-release articles as historical context rather than current availability evidence. Official Steam store and launch status · Checked October 15, 2026.
Availability can still vary by platform account, region and store package. “Released” does not prove that an individual account owns the DLC or has installed the required update.
What Dark Arisen adds
Official: the paid expansion introduces the abandoned northern region of Norgan and its Forsaken Dominion story, involving Eir and the Fallen Dragon. Lost Rites adds 12 challenge dungeons to the existing world, with equipment associated with past Arisens. New hairstyles and tattoos extend the character creator for both Arisen and Pawns. Capcom’s announcement trailer shows the expansion’s setting and encounters. It previews content; it is not a step-by-step access guide or a list of every Lost Rite.
| Content | What you do | Starting recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Norgan / Forsaken Dominion | Follow the northern story and explore the new region. | Level 40 |
| Lost Rites | Take on 12 dungeon challenges in the main world. | Level 20 |
| Relic expedition cycle | Explore Norgan, gather unidentified loot and return for appraisal. | Part of Norgan exploration, not a separate difficulty setting. |
Official: Capcom’s producer gives levels 40 and 20 as entry recommendations, with difficulty increasing later. These are not promises that every encounter is suitable at that level. Which edition do you need, and on which platform?
| Your situation | Product to check | What is confirmed |
|---|---|---|

Official: the expansion’s platform list is Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. This does not establish PS4, Xbox One or original Switch support. Check the exact product name before purchase: Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, without “2,” is a different game. Prices, regional offers and physical-package contents are not treated as universal here. How to start the expansion and reach Norgan
Official entry condition: Capcom’s Q&A says both expansion routes become accessible after reaching Vernworth in the main story’s prologue and speaking to Brant at the inn. The level recommendations are not level locks. Capcom developer Q&A · Checked October 15, 2026.
Media guide: PC Gamer documents the following access route. Its report also identifies an Unmoored World restriction; this guide has not reproduced the route in-game. PC Gamer, October 8 access walkthrough · Checked October 15, 2026.
- Check the installed product. Use Dragon’s Dogma 2 with the Dark Arisen expansion entitlement and current game update. A base-game update alone is not proof of owning the paid content.
- Reach Vernworth and visit The Stardrop Inn at night. Speak with Captain Brant.
- Choose “About the new Arisen…” This starts Chilling Tidings, the quest leading into Norgan.
- For Lost Rites, use “About the uncovered ruins…” instead. That is the dungeon quest route, rather than the Norgan story introduction.
The access route does not require an ordinary new character. PC Gamer reports that a character already in the Unmoored World must reach New Game+ to access the expansion. Its shortcut uses the carry-over restart option, which replaces the current run’s quest progress. Read the in-game confirmation before choosing a restart; do not reset a run merely to look for Brant.
If the dialogue is absent, first verify the account’s expansion entitlement, installed DLC and nighttime location. These are editorial checks, not a confirmed fix for every platform. Individual save-state exceptions remain unverified.
What “Relic Expedition” means
Official Norgan detail: Capcom describes the Norgandian Settlement as the region’s remaining refuge. Outside it, combat and exploration of abandoned villages and caves provide relic opportunities. Jiera appraises the finds; apparently similar relics may reveal different equipment, with rarity affecting attributes and possible abilities. Prepare supplies and equipment before leaving, then return to assess your haul. Capcom France, September 2 expedition overview · Checked October 15, 2026.
Official: Norgan’s exploration feeds a loot-based expedition cycle. The store describes finding forgotten relics and appraising them for new weapons and skills. Capcom launch announcement · Checked October 15, 2026; official product description · Checked October 15, 2026.
- Explore Norgan and collect unidentified spoils.
- Return to the Norgandian Settlement and speak to Jiera.
- Check the Rift Crystal appraisal cost before confirming.
- Compare the revealed reward with your current equipment, then decide whether to keep exploring.
Reported guide detail: Jiera’s service uses Rift Crystals; rewards can vary rather than guaranteeing a specific weapon. This is supported by The Click’s appraisal guide · Checked October 15, 2026. Do not treat an example roll, price or farming route as a universal drop table. Exact odds, all spawn locations and best-in-slot claims have not been established for this page.
Media experience: Kotaku describes Norgan as demanding snowy terrain. That is review context, not a universal difficulty measurement. Kotaku review · Checked October 15, 2026.
Hard Mode is part of the base-game update
Official distinction: earlier free updates add the Eternal Ferrystone, six equipped weapon-skill slots and additional save slots. The expansion adds new or enhanced skills for existing vocations rather than a new vocation. Capcom’s Q&A also describes an appearance-changing feature unlocked through a Norgan quest; it does not provide the full unlock walkthrough. Capcom update announcements; developer Q&A · Checked October 15, 2026.
Does Dark Arisen add a new vocation? No new vocation is listed in Capcom’s expansion description or developer Q&A. The confirmed addition is new or enhanced skills for the existing vocation roster. This answer should be rechecked if Capcom changes the product description or publishes a later vocation announcement.
Official: Capcom’s October 9 launch post says Title Update 4.0 adds Hard Mode to the base game and allows it on an existing or new save. It also lists a carry-over restart feature and PC frame-generation support. Hard Mode should therefore not be presented as a paid Norgan unlock. Capcom launch post · Checked October 15, 2026.
Community caution: players discussing developer interviews report that switching a run to Hard cannot be freely toggled back to Normal mid-run. This page has not independently verified the reversal rules; read the difficulty confirmation before changing an existing save. Community interview discussion · Checked October 15, 2026. Damage multipliers and reward bonuses are not asserted here.
Current version status and what still needs checking
As of October 15, 2026: the official October 9 announcement says Dark Arisen is live and names Title Update 4.0. Earlier articles saying Hard Mode’s release date was unknown describe an older state. This review does not establish that 4.0 is still the newest hotfix on every platform. Official release-status evidence · Checked October 15, 2026.
- Recheck platform patch notes after any hotfix changes access, difficulty, saves or appraisal.
- Recheck the store before buying: entitlement and regional bundle contents matter more than the shortened “Dark Arisen” name.
- Switch 2 is confirmed as an expansion platform; the PC update’s features are not proof of identical Switch 2 settings or performance.
- Still unverified: individual save-state exceptions, all Hard Mode reversal rules, per-platform installed build numbers and relic drop rates.
